The American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association (AMTDA) has released the results of its 2005 Service Technician and Application Engineer Practices Survey. The 49-page report is designed for machine-tool builders and distributors to benchmark their operations against industry practices on compensation and other operations issues related to service technicians and application engineers. Capacity Uptick for Toyota Tijuana Truck Plant

Toyota Motor Corp., through its Mexican unit, Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja California, plans to increase the annual capacity of its Tijuana, Mexico, Tacoma pickup-truck plant by 20,000 vehicles. With a $37 million investment in the plant expansion, to be completed next year, the company will boost production to 50,000 trucks annually.

New Metals Center in Quebec City

Earle M. Jorgensen Co., Lynwood, CA, has opened a metals processing and distribution facility in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The 20,000-sq.-ft. plant holds an inventory of bar and tube stock along with inhouse cutting equipment. This is the fifth facility opening or expansion announced in recent months by the company, the others located in Toronto, Canada; Spokane, WA; Houston, TX; and Hartford, CT. For more, visit
