Thursday, February 07, 2008
Mazak Optonics Corp., Schaumburg, IL, has begun construction on its new $10-million North American headquarters complex in Elgin, IL, and plans to open the 50,000-sq.-ft. facility by year end. The Elgin complex, a compliment to the firm’s new 100,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing plant under construction in Minokamo, Japan, will include 20,000 sq. ft. dedicated to administrative offices and training space. A 25,000-sq.-ft. showroom, with a 37-ft. ceiling and 20-ton crane, will be able to house as many as 18 laser-cutting machines for demonstration and training. The last 5000 sq. ft. goes towards a parts-distribution center, and will house a parts inventory of $4 million. Already being considered is an expansion to the complex to house machine rebuilding and refurbishing operations and a 100-person-capacity auditorium. Learn more at
