Steel and Aluminum Shipments
Surged in January

The Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI), Rolling Meadows, IL, last week released its Metals Activity Report for January 2011, finding that shipments of steel and aluminum from U.S. and Canadian service centers surged, and sequential month-end inventory levels also rose for moth metals in both nations. January steel shipments from U.S. service centers (3.4 million tons) climbed by 21 percent compared to December shipments, and inventory levels (2.4-month supply) are 28.3 percent larger than January 2010 stockpiles. Aluminum shipments from U.S. service centers (121,400 tons) also were up by 21 percent compared to December, while aluminum inventory levels (2.9-month supply) are 38.7 percent higher than they were a year ago.

LVD, Pullmax Combine Key Operations

Belgium’s LVD Company and Sweden’s Pullmax AB have entered into an agreement to combine sales, service, production and research-and-development efforts, while maintaining their independent corporate identities. Among the agreement’s terms: LVD will manufacture Pullmax punching machines, and Pullmax will represent LVD’s laser-cutting, punching, bending and shearing equipment, as well as its software and mid-range automation products. Lincoln Electric to Host Laser Welding
and Cutting Seminar
