Cincinnati Machine Opens Michigan Tech Centers

Machine-tool builder Cincinnati Machine is opening two new technical centers in Michigan. Besides offering the full range of machine tools, the centers will also provide service and support for equipment already in production. One center, opened in January by machine-tool distributor CNC Link, Madison Heights, MI, combines an office area and showroom totaling 3500 sq. ft. A second center is slated for Farmington Hills, MI, by distributor Methods & Equipment Associates.

Bettcher Adds Four-Slide Equipment to Mexican Facility

Precision stamper Bettcher Manufacturing, LLC, Cleveland, OH, has expanded the capabilities of its plant in Reynosa, Mexico by adding four-slide equipment. The new equipment allows the plant, opened in May 1999, to manufacture springs, wire forms and other high-tolerance precision parts. Learn more at

Lear Announces Six-Percent Layoff

Automotive-parts maker Lear Corp., Southfield, MI, announced last week that it would cut 6500 jobs, some six percent of its workforce, and close 21 sites worldwide. Of the sites scheduled for shuttering, 16 are in North and South America and will affect 9500 jobs (Lear expects to create 3000 new jobs this year, for a net reduction of 6500). Lear, which builds seats, interiors and electrical components, had previously reported a 32-percent drop in fourth-quarter 2001 profits.
