Metal Improvement Co. Boosts Finishing Capabilities

Metal Improvement Co. has expanded the metal-finishing capabilities of its Bensalem, PA, facility by adding fluoropolymer powder and liquid coating systems. The Bensalem facility offers more than 200.000 sq. ft. of processing space to serve the aerospace and other specialty industries. Besides coatings application, the facility performs complementary metal finishing services such as grit blasting, fluorescent penetrant inspection, chromic/phosphoric acid anodizing, glass beading and shot peening. Automated chemical processing tanks allow processing of large single components measuring to 38 ft. long by 10 ft. wide and 2 ft. wide, or large batches of smaller parts. U of M Sets Plant-Management Course

The University of Michigan Business School is offering Leadership in Plant Operations, a five-day course scheduled for May 3-7, and repeated October 4-8, 2004. Attendees will learn how to initiate lean manufacturing practices; reduce manufacturing cycle times; quickly and accurately assess a plant; measure performance; encourage safe environments and practices; and align manufacturing and operations with other business functions. The course is designed for manufacturing and operations managers as well as individuals working in plant operation. Macsteel Service Centers Adds CA Operation

Macsteel Service Centers USA has acquired Hokin-Katz, a metals service center located in Los Angeles, CA. The center will operate under the Hokin-Katz name under the Macsteel umbrella. Macsteel will relocate the flat-rolled business of its Western Division to this location. Hokin-Katz specializes in close-tolerance slitting and precision blanking of products including thin-gauge and surface-critical coated and noncoated steels. It supplies high-end niche markets.
