Tailor Steel to Receive Schuler Laser-Welding System
Wednesday, December 05, 2001
Tailor Steel America, Holt, MI, is set to receive a dual-gantry dual-laser-welding system from Schuler Held Lasertechnik, the laser division of Schuler AG. Delivery is scheduled for early 2002. The dual-head moving-optics laser welder features two 8-kw CO2 Rofin Sinar lasers. The automatic machine has in-line weld-geometry profile cameras and a seam tracker that directs the laser. It also includes an ultrasonic, nondestructive weld-inspection system as well as in-line oiling and dimpling systems.
Each of the machine's two gantries will weld at the same time on the same part at Tailor Steel America. Addition of the second laser on a part increases throughput by decreasing cycle time, according to a company official, thus increasing capacity by 80 percent. Schuler Inc., Canton, MI, represents Schuler products and services in the United States.
