Ware Mfg. Moving from Minn. to S. Dakota

Metalformer Ware Manufacturing, Inc., New Hope, MN, will relocate next summer to a new $2.4 million 68,000-sq.-ft. facility in Lenox, SD, near Sioux Falls. Within 3 years, Ware expects to employ 125 people in Lennox. Some of its 56 current employees will relocate, but most new employees will be hired from the Sioux Falls area. Ware will work with Southeastern Technical College in Sioux Falls to train its new workforce.
Pro-Eco Slitting Line Headed
for ThyssenKrupp Service Center

ThyssenKrupp Steel Services will install a new Pro-Eco, Oakville, Ontario, Canada, slitting line at its steel-processing and distribution center in Richburg, SC, for a January 2003 startup. The line will run material to 1/4-in. thick by 72-in. wide, on coils to 60,000 lb, at speeds to 900 ft./min. It will include scrap choppers, two quick-change tension-roll cartridges, tension pads and a downender.
GM Consolidating its Tooling Operations

General Motors has begun to combine its tool-center operations in Grand Blanc, MI, announcing plans to close its tool centers in Lansing and Pontiac, MI, and in Mansfield, OH. The tool centers build welding tools for GM assembly and metal-stamping plants. The firm plans to relocate employees early in 2003 and to open the revamped Grand Blanc tool center, after spending $20 million to refurbish and expand the facility, by the end of 2003. Its workforce is expected to grow from 170 to 600.
