Census Bureau Reports Manufacturing Statistics

The U.S. Census Bureau has published its report on manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders for the month of October 2007. New orders for manufactured goods, down three consecutive months, decreased in October by 0.2 percent, on the heels of a 1.4 percent drop in September. On a positive note, new orders for manufactured nondurable goods increased by 1.3 percent in October. Also a positive: shipments of manufactured durable goods grew by 0.8 percent in October, following a 1.8 percent drop in September. Shipments of manufactured nondurable goods also rose in October, by 1.3 percent.
Unfilled orders for and inventories of manufactured durable goods both climbed in October, by 1.0 percent and 0.3 percent respectively. And inventories of manufactured nondurable goods, down two of the last three months, decreased 0.3 percent in October. Learn more at
