Despite increases in monthly shipments, the trend continues to point downward for the North American steel tubular industry, according to statistics supplied by the Steel Tube Institute of North America. Shipments of mechanical tube rose 10-12 percent in October as compared to September numbers, but trailed October 2000 shipments by 8-10 percent. Year-to-date volume is 9-11 percent behind 2000 levels. Shipments of stainless tubular products increased 4-6 percent in October, but decreased 3-5 percent as compared to last October.
