Reko Intl. to Acquire Equity in The Mold Company

Reko International Group, Windsor, Ontario, Canada, will acquire a 49-percent equity interest in TMC (The Mold Company), a Michigan manufacturer of injection molds. Reko is an integrated engineering and manufacturing firm that operates 12 production facilities in Ontario and Michigan for design and manufacture of dies, tooling, metal stampings and molds, as well as its own proprietary line of CNC machining centers.

Gives Visitors an Eyeful

On December 3-4, Orchid Automation hosted an open house of its 57,000-sq.-ft. plant in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. The timing couldn’t have been better, as visitors viewed several large projects in various stages of production, some ready for shipment and others a few weeks from shipment. Among the projects on the shop floor: an in-press three-axis servo part-transfer system (a fourth axis lifts the transfer system out of the way for quick die change) for a large double-ram press with combined bolster size of 400 by 132 in.; an end-of-line rack-handling system and a blank destacker/loader for a tandem press line; a press-to-press part-transfer system (60-in. feed stroke) for a four-press tandem line, capable of handling blanks to 41-in. square with a cycle rate up to 11 parts/min.; a five-level AS/RS, with PLC-based master control, for dies as large as 204 by 116 in. and weighing up to 100,000 lb., that boasts a die-change time of 15 min. and stores up to 43 dies; and an end-of-line exit conveyor for large automotive presses with telescoping capability and an integrated inspection light system.
