Red Bud Installs Lines at Nucor, ArcelorMittal

A new 3/8-in. capacity cut-to-length line has hit the production floor at the Nucor Corp. building-system’s facility in Brigham City, UT, and a new precision blanking line has begun production at the ArcelorMittal processing plant in Sterling Heights, MI, both courtesy of Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. Nucor’s 75-in.-wide cut-to-length line produces steel sheet to 30 ft. long, from coils to 50,000 lb., for metal-building components. It includes a traversing scissor-lift table, multi-positional stack storage system and pop-top-style straightener. ArcelorMittal’s new blanking line processes coils to 60-in. dia. and 40,000 lb., and includes a dual-motor grip-feed system, flatness inspection table and a Machine Concepts corrective leveler with AutoFlat shape correction—a patented control system that reads the shape of the strip and adjusts the leveler to maintain optimum flatness without operator intervention. Electrocoater Wins Environmental Excellence Award

The San Antonio Manufacturers Association and the San Antonio Water Systems awarded the MetoKote plant in San Antonio, TX, its Environmental Excellence Award in Industrial Pretreatment. Criteria for the award include having no reporting violations from Jan. 1, 2007, to June 30, 2008; and not having been listed as Significantly Non-Compliant in the past three years. Award recipients also must display environmental stewardship by recognizing best-management practices, water-conservation practices, pollution prevention and initiatives that are deemed educational, innovative, cooperative, responsive, voluntary and effective. The MetoKote facility, one of only three companies receiving the award this year, also recently earned ISO 14001 registration. MetoKote, headquartered in Lima, OH, is one of 21 suppliers in the San Antonio Toyota Supplier Campus, electrocoating metal components for the Toyota Tundra. Learn more at
