AMT SWAT Team to Tackle
Automation Cycle-Time Issues

Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Applied Manufacturing Technologies, Inc., Orion, MI, a supplier of factory-automation design, engineering and process-consulting services, has formed a cross-discipline group called the Cycle Time SWAT Team. The team, created from the company’s simulation, programming, controls and mechanical groups, will focus on helping robot-system integrators and end users lower cycle times and increase production. The SWAT approach, according to company officials, consists of three phases: Evaluation, where the current installation is assessed, target areas for improvement identified, and a cycle-time-reduction budget established; Soft Implementation, where software and other improvements are made, which are the least disruptive and lowest-cost improvements and where sufficient savings may be realized to meet overall system objectives; and Hard Implementation, where any tooling, fixturing, cell-layout, parts-feeding or dunnage changes are made.
