Robot Orders Off 19 Percent

Orders from North American manufacturing companies for robots have declined by 19 percent through September 2008 compared to the same period last year, according to the North American-based robot companies reporting statistics to the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), Ann Arbor, MI. Orders from the automotive industry are off 36 percent in units and 26 percent in dollars through September. At the same time, nonautomotive orders are up 15 percent in units and 10 percent in dollars, with strong growth reported in several markets including semiconductor, electronics and photonics.
