Earns Award for Workforce Development

Family-owned Wolverine Coil Spring, Grand Rapids, MI, a supplier of springs, stampings, wire forms, clips and assemblies, earned the 2009 ACT Employer of Excellence Award from ACT, Inc. ACT, Iowa City, IA, an independent nonprofit organization, provides assessment, research, information and program-management tools for employee education and workforce development. The company served as a pilot site for rolling out the National Career Readiness Certificate in Western Michigan. The National Career Readiness Certificate verifies to employers anywhere in the United States that an individual has essential core employability skills in reading, math, and in locating information. Wolverine Coil Spring president Jay Dunwell formed a regional employer group to assist the project’s leadership, and championed the initiative by organizing career-awareness events and securing business support for the certificate. Tennessee Supplier to BMW
Hiring Dozens of New Employees

About a month ago, LSP Automotive Systems, Union, SC, was acquired by Spain’s Gestamp Automocion LLC. Yesterday (Nov. 4), Gestamp announced plans to hire 40 new employees at LSP to gear up to supply stampings and assemblies to the BMW plant in nearby Spartanburg, SC, set to launch its new X3 model in 2010. LSP will hire production managers, CNC operators, tool and die technicians, controls engineers, tooling engineers and others. LSP operates out of a 395,000-sq.-ft. plant housing a giant Schuler tandem press line, and currently employs 135 people;
