Monday, October 31, 2005
The Minnesota Council for Quality (MCQ) has presented a 2005 Minnesota Quality Award (MQA) to Mate Precision Tooling, Anoka, MN, a manufacturer of punch-press tooling. The MCQ reviewed the application and six trained Baldrige evaluators conducted a three-day site visit to Mate. For more, visit Mate online at

YTD Steel Import Levels Alarmingly Low
Friday, October 28, 2005
According to preliminary data from the Department of Commerce, overall 2005 year-to-date (YTD) steel imports are down 10 percent from 2004 levels through September, and total imports dropped 5 percent from August 2005 to September 2005. YTD imports of hot- and cold-rolled steel are down 20 percent from 2004, “further testament for the need of increased steel imports for U.S. steel consumers to more easily obtain the steel they need at globally competitive prices,” says William E. Gaskin, president of the Precision Metalforming Association.
