Otis Elevator has announced plans to rationalize its supply chain by consolidating design, engineering and manufacturing under one roof—that roof being its new 360-employee plant in Florence, SC. The move comes at the expense of the firm’s assembly facility in Nogales, Mexico, slated for closure. Reports note that ending its 12-yr. foray in Mexico will reduce Otis Elevator’s freight and logistics costs by 17.3 percent, and allow it gain another 20 percent in “efficiencies” by locating all design and engineering personnel at the new factory, rather than in Indiana, Arizona and Dallas as it had previously.
