Annual Apprentice Contest Slated for Spring 2008

The National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) will hold its 36th annual National Apprentice Contest April 23-26, 2008, in Cleveland, OH. Hosted by the Cleveland Chapter NTMA along with Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, the contest consists of an intense two-day program where competitors produce projects using machine tools. They also demonstrate their knowledge in a written exam. Several companies have signed on as sponsors for the event, and several more sponsorship opportunities exist. Great Britain Welcomes First SCS Coil Line

Servosteel, a toll processor in Dudley, West Midlands, UK, recently went online with the first SCS coil line to be installed in that country. The SCS line, an environmentally and budget-friendly alternative to pickling and oiling, was designed and manufactured by Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. The process employs a controlled brushing off of all surface scale except for a micro-thin layer. Servosteel’s new line can process coils to 72 in. wide of stock to 0.315 in. thick. Aida-America Celebrates Expansion

Earlier this month, Aida-America Corp. celebrated the grand opening of its facility expansion and 10 years of manufacturing in Huber Heights, OH, near Dayton. Also being celebrated: the 90oth anniversary of parent company Aida-Engineering Ltd. The facility expansion totals 17,600 sq. ft. and allows the firm to bring large-component welding inhouse and to increase its capacity for large-component machining. Learn more at www.aida-america.com
