Ford Aims to Source Half its European Parts
from Low-Cost Countries

Mark Fields, Ford’s new head of operations for North America, says that by 2010, half of the company’s parts in Europe will come from low-cost countries. That’s twice what it’s buying today, according to a recent report in
The Detroit News.
Thomas & Betts Named to Top 10

IndustryWeek magazine has named Thomas & Betts Corp., Athens, TN, one of its 10 Best Plants in North America. The firm manufactures electrical-outlet and conduit boxes, metal framing accessories and plastic wiring duct at its 324,000-sq.-ft. plant. Since November 2002 it has completed 37 week-long Kaizen events. Through those and other initiatives it has decreased finished-goods inventory by 32 percent, raw-material and work-in-process inventory by 74 percent and customer complaints by 50 percent.
