Sparrows Point Steel Mill Changes Ownership

The former RG Steel Mill at Sparrows Point, MD, idle since May 2012, has been acquired by joint-venture partners Hilco Trading and Environmental Liability Transfer. The partners are “evaluating all of our options for the property,” says a spokesperson, including operating the mill in its entirety or partially, or removing and reselling the equipment and redeveloping the site. The mill, the only fully integrated mill on the east coast of the United States capable of producing flat-rolled steel, houses North America’s second largest blast furnace. North Texas Metal Spinning, LLC, Fort Worth TX, is open for business. The firm is a joint venture between Wayne Boeckman, of WJB Holdings, Fort Worth, and Joe Glenn, Glenn Metalcraft Inc., Princeton, NJ.
