Beckwood Expands Hydraulic-Press Plant

Beckwood Press Co., St. Louis, MO, has expanded its manufacturing plant to accommodate its growth in the hydraulic-press industry. Thomas & Betts Named to Top 10

IndustryWeek magazine has named Thomas & Betts Corp., Athens, TN, one of its 10 Best Plants in North America. The firm manufactures electrical-outlet and conduit boxes, metal framing accessories and plastic wiring duct at its 324,000-sq.-ft. plant. Since November 2002 it has completed 37 week-long Kaizen events. Through those and other initiatives it has decreased finished-goods inventory by 32 percent, raw-material and work-in-process inventory by 74 percent and customer complaints by 50 percent. Delphi Receives Award
for Use of Robots and Vision Systems

Amongst the recent negative publicity surrounding Delphi Corp., the firm enjoyed some positive news last week as it was selected to receive the 2005 Robot and Vision User Recognition Award from the Robotic Industries Association and the Automated Imaging Association. The award recognizes efforts to use robots and vision to help manufacturers reduce costs, use less floor space, increase productivity and improve product quality. Delphi credits its recent robotic material-handling installations with helping it achieve lean-manufacturing goals.
