Pipe-Mill Entry System for Sharon Tube

Described as the first big project for Sharon Tube (Sharon, PA) in some time, a new pipe mill is being prepared that will be capable of handling 6-5/8-in.-OD pipe by 0.440-in. wall, at line speeds to 250 ft./min. Kent Corp., North Royalton, OH, is building the entry line, which consists of a four-arm turnstile for 240,000-lb. coil storage, coil car with burr orientation, uncoiler with on-board coil retainer, and a peeler system to guide the strip into the flattener. The end welder will detect the tail end, locate at shear station, side guide, clamp and shear. The flattener then will feed the new coil lead end into the end welder shear area for welding.
Cold Metal Products May Reopen , for Good, in Indy

On October 3, Cold Metal Products announced that it was investigating the possibility of permanently reopening its plant in Indianapolis. IN. Under an agreement with the United Steelworkers of America, the firm rehired 13 hourly employees and restarted manufacturing operations on a temporary basis. The agreement enables the plant to operate for 60 days while it and the union negotiate a new labor contract. The plant had closed on August 15, one day before the firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
