OSHA Revised Recordkeeping Rule Takes Effect

Tuesday, January 08, 2002

On January 1, the OSHA revised recordkeeping rule went into effect, meaning metalformers with more than 10 employees at any time throughout the year must keep OSHA injury and illness records. The records must be kept on the new OSHA Form 300-Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses, which replaces the Form 200. In addition, OSHA has created Form 301-Injury and Illness Incident Report, and Form 300A-Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. Form 301 includes detailed information about how an injury or illness occurred, while Form 300A, which must be posted in a visible location in the workplace, is a separate summary that shows the totals for the year in each category. This summary must be posted from February 1 through April 30 in the year following the year covered by the form. For more information on these new recordkeeping requirements, visit www.osha-slc.gov/recordkeeping/index.html.
