Ulbrich Stainless Steels & Special Metals Inc., North Haven, CT, has acquired the Flat Wire Division of Steel Heddle, Inc., Greenville, SC. Soudronic Automotive Division, Livonia, MI, which designs, builds and installs welding equipment and systems for the automotive industry, has opened its TechCenter and After Sales Service Center in Livonia, MI. Soudronic showcased laser-welding technology at its recent open house. The company provides seam-welding technology and is noted for supplying manufacturing lines for tailored and tubular blanks. The results of the November Business Conditions Report, released by the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), reflect the first forecast of optimism among member manufacturers since the September 11 attacks. Twenty-four percent of 198 responding manufacturing companies feel economic activity will increase in coming months, a 13-percent increase over October results. Only 23 percent predicted a further-downward turn, a 26-percent decrease from October. In addition, respondents expect a 35-percent increase in orders during the next three months, a much more positive outlook over October numbers.
