Manufacturing Recovery Hits Full Stride in December

U.S. manufacturing experienced its fifth consecutive month of expansion in December 2009, according to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), a trade group of purchasing executives. The ISM manufacturing index read 55.9 in December, up from 53.6 in November—a reading above 50 indicates growth. ISM also reports that its index tracking new orders jumped in December to 65.6, up from 60.3 in November. Indexes measuring production and employment also climbed.

Whistler & Sons, Inc., Akron, NY, a manufacturer of modular dies for sheetmetal punching and notching, has acquired Phinney Tool and Die, Medina, NY, a manufacturer of tooling, dies and press lines for heat-transfer coil production, particularly fin dies for air-conditioning equipment.
