Metal-Framing Manufacturer Installs Coil Line

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

Braner/Loopco, Schiller Park, IL, has installed a turret-head coil-slitting and automatic slit-coil packaging line at the new 279,000-sq.-ft. plant of Marino/Ware, a metal-frame manufacturer in East Chicago, IN. The firm produces cold-formed steel construction products. The slitting line can process cold-rolled and galvanized-steel coils to 60,000 lb. by 72-in. wide in thicknesses from 0.012 to 0.25 in. Line speed peaks at 1500 ft./min. Its turret-head slitter employs three quick-change slitter heads, and a loop-control strip tensioner enables processing of oily and surface-critical coil. The packaging line features a four-arm turnstile, downender, semiautomatic strapping machine and six-station coil-sorting turntable. Learn more at www.braner.com.

A new independent nonprofit research center dedicated to the study of coatings and tribology—the science of friction and wear—has opened in northern Illinois. The Institute of Tribology and Coatings, Sugar Grove, IL, will focus initial efforts on the needs and practicalities of end users, by devising test procedures and equipment for evaluating new coatings and other life-extension technologies. The facility’s first project is for the U.S. Army with funding championed by Speaker of the House, U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert. For more information, visit www.tribologyinstitute.com.
