Braner Slitter Headed for Ferguson Metals

Late this year, stainless-steel and nickel-ally distributor Ferguson Metals Inc., Hamilton, OH, will take delivery of a 50-in. dual-head slitter from Braner USA, Schiller Par, IL. The slitter will process sheet 0.009 to 0.135-in. thick. “The new equipment will allow us to process more material in less time, along with a reduction in scrap,” said H. ne Ferguson, president. Alabama Service Center Eyes Tier 1 and Tier 2 Suppliers

Hanna Steel Corp., Gadsden AL, recently passed its intensive 2-day audit, following an 8-month preparation and implementation period, to earn QS 9000 certification for quality manufacturing management systems. As one of the few steel-service centers in the south to receive QS 9000 certification, the firm expects to generate many new opportunities in the fast-growing automotive industry in Alabama, according to general manager Mike Barber. Hanna Steel provides steel tubing, processed steel coils and pre-painted coils. It operates plants in Fairfield, Gadsden and Tuscaloosa, AL, and in Pekin, IL. Brankamp Receives Q1 Award

Ford Motor Company recently presented Brankamp Process Automation, Cambridge, MA, with its Q1 Award, for its process-monitoring devices. Requirements for the award are an ongoing relationship with Ford, certification to ISO 9000 as well as implementation of the Ford Quality Operation System. Brankamp has worked with Ford for more than 10 years, and supplies process-monitoring equipment to Ford spinoff Visteon as well.
