Thursday, December 20, 2001
Come February, steel purchased from USX-U.S. Steel and from Bethlehem Steel will carry slightly higher price tags. USX-U.S. plans to raise prices on some steel plates by $20 per ton, a 7 percent hike, while Bethlehem also plans a $20-per-ton price hike, on hot-rolled sheet, representing a 9 percent increase. Both firms blame the increases on new orders from former LTV customers and on declining imports.
