Software Operates in SolidWorks to Design Progressive Dies
3DQuickPress, available in North America through Strategic Technology Solutions (STS), LLC, is a SolidWorks add-on for progressive-die design. It allows a 3D strip to be made from a 3D model--vital as strip layout is the core of progressive-die design, according to STS officials. The software’s Strip Layout Manager provides users with simple-to-understand tools to complete their strip, accessible via drag-and-drop commands that provide instant graphical feedback. Key functions of the Strip Layout Manager include optimization, support for multiple parts and notch-punch design.
Within the software, Die Set Design begins upon completion of the strip layout. The software’s design features include automatic creation of all punches defined in the strip, user-definable databases, automatic hole creation and tools for component placement. In addition, production-level templates in 3DQuickPress allow users to insert custom and or purchased components into a die-set structure using minimal manual operations. Template features include standard libraries for parts and die sets, automatic part recognition that enables creation of accurate bills of materials, and sketch tools to assist in creating die openings and inserts.
