From Sept. 13 to 18, IMTS 2010 will welcome more than 1100 exhibiting companies occupying 1.2 million net sq. ft. of McCormick Place exhibit. All told, more than 90,000 attendees from more 100-plus countries will get a good look at leading-edge technology in nine product-category pavilions, including:
- Metal Cutting—Everything from machining centers and assembly automation to flexible manufacturing systems and lathes.
- Tooling & Workholding Systems—Jigs, fixtures, cutting tools and related accessories.
- Alternative Manufacturing Processes—Waterjet, plasma-arc and laser-cutting systems, welding equipment, heattreating and more.
Other IMTS pavilions feature equipment for abrasive machining and sawing, controls and CAD-CAM, wire-EDM, manufacturing software and quality assurance.
Visitors also will see leading-edge manufacturing technologies in 3D, at the Emerging Technology Center (ETC). Presented by AMT—The Association for Manufacturing Technology in partnership with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), knowledge-based ETC technologies on display include:
- Additive Manufacturing
- Cloud Computing
- Nanotechnology and Micro Manufacturing
Also in 3D, and starring at the IMTS Advanced Manufacturing Center, will be a virtual-reality presentation where visitors can operate and interact with the Trent 1000 aircraft engine being used to power the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Those looking for more aerospace head-turning technology also will appreciate Lockheed Martin’s exhibit of a full-scale model of the F-35 Lightning aircraft—the world’s premiere strike aircraft—during the show. Learn about plane’s construction and the manufacturing technology behind it.
