Greenerd Press & Machine Co., Nashua, NH, has designed and built a 75-ton hydraulic press to form titanium blanks for a medical-device manufacturer. The press boasts a 35-ton cushion cylinder (also used as a knockout) and a secondary ram-mounted 20-ton cushion/eject with proportionally controlled speed for the eject function. Also included is hydraulic clamping, RFID identification of tooling and closed-loop control of the tooling heaters to maintain a drawing temperature of 600 F within plus or minus 1 deg. The main ram features two pressing circuits—one to control speed between 0.2 and 2.0 in./min, the other between 7.2 and 36 in./min. More at www.greenerd.com/.
