Punch-Laser Combo Offers Unique Control Functions

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Trumpf, Inc., Farmington, CT, introduces the TruMatic 6000 fiber, a punch-laser combination machine that unites the advantages of high-speed solid-state laser processing with high-quality punching and forming technology. Designed for work on sheetmetal to 0.25 in. thick, the machine provides scratch-free processing while an intuitive laser-output control system ensures optimum quality when cutting delicate curves and tight radii. Starring on the machine is a TruDisk 3001 solid-state laser, combined with 20 tons of punching force delivered at 1000 strokes/min. The productivity of the solid-state laser is most evident on galvanized mild steel and stainless steel--when cutting these materials, processing speeds reportedly are as much as six times greater than with a CO2 laser of the same power, with good cut quality. The TruMatic 6000 fiber also takes on nonferrous work, such as copper and brass, in addition to mild and stainless steel, and aluminum.

To minimize nonproductive machine time, users will appreciate the smart punch-monitoring function—it senses when a punch has broken and stops the machine and notifies the operator in the event of an issue. Also, the smart-load function automatically and precisely aligns the sheet on the machine, and the smart-unload function optimizes the removal process. The machine also can recognize if a part is stuck in the skeleton and, if it cannot be removed, automatically stops to avoid a collision.
