Additive Manufacturing Stars in Online Video

Friday, February 1, 2013

Sciaky, Inc., Chicago, IL, has produced and posted an informative video highlighting its Direct Manufacturing (DM) additive-manufacturing process. Designed to produce high-value metal parts and prototypes, Sciaky launched its DM solution, based on additive-manufacturing principles, in 2009. The firm employs the process to make near-net shape parts of titanium, tantalum, Inconel and other high-value metals, as large as 19 ft. long, 4 ft. wide and 4 ft. tall. The solution combines computer-aided design, Sciaky’s state-of-the art electron-beam welding (EBW) technology and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky’s fully articulated moving EBW gun deposits metal layer by layer, until the part is complete and ready for finish-machining. Deposition rates range from 7 to 20 lb./hr., depending on part geometry and the workpiece material. To view the video, visit
