Fagor to Outfit New ThyssenKrupp Plant in Alabama

ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, LLC of Mobile, AL, awarded Spanish equipment supplier Fagor Arrasate a contract to construct a pair of inspection and slitting lines to process cold-rolled steel, and a third hot-rolled slitting line for the new ThyssenKrupp steel-processing plant planned for Calvert, AL. Installations should begin in 2009; the plant is slated to open in 2010.
The Fagor inspection and slitting lines, rated to 500 m/min., will include laser welding, inspection cabins, electrostatic oilers, dimensional-measurement capabilities and integrated controls with full monitoring, telediagnosis, production-control and coil-tracking capabilities. The hot-strip slitting line will process steel to 6.5 mm thick and 1870 mm wide, with a maximum line speed of 300 m/min.
